OUTLINE
Project ideas are sought that will help cut crime in local communities.
We want to receive Projects from young people up to the age of 25 that will tackle Crimebeat Priorities:
• Cutting local crime and anti social behaviour
and keeping more young people out of trouble
• Supporting victims of crime and ASB
• Improving school attendance and behaviour
• Stimulating an interest in voluntary work
• Helping to strengthen local communities
• Improving the quality of life in your local community
Groups of young people working on their own initiative (or drawing on the advice and support received from their school, youth club, community group, youth organisation or Youth Worker) are encouraged to develop ideas and turn them in to successful projects, for which funding of up to £1,000 for selected projects is available.
There are few restrictions to the projects; your ideas can be simple and down to earth or pioneering and adventurous.
TIMING
Submit your application via your Youth Worker by 31 October.
PROCESS
Your application will be submitted by your Youth Worker to your local Youth Forum (5 for Derby City and 9 for the rest of the County). Each Youth Forum will consider all entries and select one winning entrant per District.
Nominated winning projects will be forwarded to the Crimebeat Trustees for approval in November.
The Winners will be announced and cheques of up to £1,000 per winning project will be presented.
END OF PROJECT
At the end of the project, in April, each Project Group will be asked to submit an “impact report”, available from the website, demonstrating the positive outcomes of the project.
A Crimebeat Panel will decide which three Derbyshire projects have best been able to show the long–term impact of their project in their neighbourhood. The High Sheriff of Derbyshire will present awards to the top three projects, with the overall winner being entered into the National Crimebeat competition in June, where the best national projects will receive further awards.
HELP AND HINTS TO SELECT A GOOD PROJECT
AND TO COMPLETE APPLICATION FORM
1. Your project should be linked into crime or a problem with Anti Social Behaviour. For details of past projects that have received funding take a look at our Previous Projects Gallery or discuss with your Youth Worker.
We are moving away from funding equipment and do NOT fund the purchase of football kits for Football Clubs, nor give out money for trips. We do not fund projects that are normally funded by statutory bodies and do not usually fund a project in excess of three years.
2. Select a clear and interesting name for your project.
3. Give a clear description of your project – Simple, clear ideas are a winner!
Tell us what you will be doing and how you will achieve it.
4. It may be best if the application is completed by with your Youth Worker who will submit it on you behalf. Otherwise it is advisable to have a letter of support or additional information from an adult e.g. parent, teacher or youth worker.
5. Enclose supportive information from the young persons involved, demonstrating their commitment to be fully involved. e.g. individual letters.
6. Include details of the focus for your project. Please note if the project can be funded elsewhere (e.g. Health or Education) we will not fund it.
7. Explain what impact your project will have on the individuals concerned and the wider community e.g. Community Cohesion – Links with exclusion - young people at risk of offending.
8. Note that any partnership involvement in the project with local Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Youth Service, ASB co-ordinators, always enhances a bid.
9. Itemise the costs; we need to know how to plan to use the grant. You may be asked to raise some of the money yourself, to show a real commitment to the project.
