Groups of young people working on their own initiative (or drawing on the advice and support received from their school, youth club, community group or youth organisation) are encouraged to develop ideas and turn them in to successful projects, for which funding is available.
There are no real restrictions to the projects; your ideas can either be simple and down to earth or pioneering and adventurous.
To be eligible for a Crimebeat grant, a project must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:
- Help to reduce local crime or Anti Social behaviour
- Support the victims of crime
- Support the Improvement of school attendance and behaviour
- Stimulate an interest in voluntary work
- Help strengthen communities
- Improve the quality of life in the community
Help and Hints on selecting a Good project and completing the application form
1. Your project should be linked into crime or a problem with Anti Social Behaviour.
2. You should have a clear name for your project.
3. There needs to be a clear description of your project – Simple, clear ideas are a winner! Tell us what you will be doing. How you will achieve it.
4. It is best if the application is completed by the young people who are going to be involved. It is advisable to have a letter of support or additional information from an adult e.g. parent, teacher or youth worker
5. Please enclose any supportive information from the young persons involved e.g. individual letters.
6. You need to include details of the focus for your project. Please note if the project can be funded elsewhere (e.g. Health or Education) we may not fund it, we will however guide you to an organisation that might.
7. Tell us what impact your project will have on the individuals concerned and the wider community e.g. Community Cohesion – Links with exclusion - young people at risk of offending
8. Please note that any partnership involvement in the project with local police, fire service, Youth Service, ASB coordinators, always enhance a bid.
9. You need to think about the time that you submit your application: The Selection Panel only meets eight times a year you will find the dates of the meetings on the Web Site under Selection Panel.
10. You will be asked to complete a Project Booklet and return this to Crimebeat Derbyshire, which may then be forwarded to the National Awards.
11. Do not be surprised if the selection panel ask that you raise some of the money your self, this shows a real commitment to the project
12. Finally - itemise the costs; we need to know where the money is going.
